The bim.GROUP BYD project’s Hungarian design and technical supervision delegation was invited to China, where they had the opportunity to experience local technological solutions firsthand, gain insight into manufacturing processes, and personally meet their Chinese colleagues working on the project.
Zeleny Lajos and Nagy Dávid, structural designers from bim.GROUP, visited three cities during their trip.
In Shanghai, they toured the offices of Open Steel Ltd., the company responsible for designing and manufacturing the steel structures for BYD’s Szeged factory. Besides exploring the design offices, they were also introduced to the company’s own innovations and patents. Additionally, they visited one of Open Steel’s largest steel factories in Nantong.
After Shanghai, they traveled to Xi’an, China’s former capital, where they explored an operational manufacturing complex very similar to the one being built in Szeged. They also had the unique opportunity to test drive BYD’s flagship model, the YangWang U8, on the company’s own test track. As an added bonus, they got to see one of the modern world’s greatest wonders—the Terracotta Army.
The final stop of their journey was Shenzhen, home to BYD’s headquarters. Here, they learned about the company’s history, achievements, and long-term goals, gaining valuable insights and inspiration to support their work.
